Windstream Says Business and Broadband Made up 68% of 1Q12 Revenue

Windstream Corp. (Nasdaq:WIN) reported first-quarter results. In the first quarter, Windstream reported total revenues and sales of $1.55 billion, operating income of $253 million and net income of $65 million, or 11 cents per share. That compares to net income of $29 million, or 6 cents per share, on total revenues of approximately $1 billion during the same period in 2011.

Business service revenues were $897 million for the first quarter, up 3.2 percent from the same period a year ago on a pro forma basis. Consumer broadband service revenues were $113 million, up 5.9 percent from the same period in 2011 on a pro forma basis. Overall consumer service revenues were $338 million, down 2.6 percent from the same period a year ago on a pro forma basis.
 
Business and consumer broadband revenues represented approximately 68 percent of Windstream’s total revenues and sales in the quarter.

Windstream Announces Web Programming on New Merge Service

Windstream (Nasdaq:WIN) announced it is unveiling an exclusive behind-the-scenes web series featuring Emmy-award winning entertainment journalist Mark Steines. The series, “On The Mark,” will give consumers Mark’s firsthand insights into pop culture and entertainment news.  

The first of 14 episodes is available on the company’s Facebook and YouTube pages and will air on a bi-weekly basis for six months. The first two episodes of On the Mark will feature Mark’s thoughts on the history of the red carpet and the evolution of television show names.
 
On March 1, Windstream launched Merge, its new high-speed Internet and streaming entertainment service. Merge allows consumers to customize their entertainment experiences with high-speed access to their specific programming choices from the Internet directly to their television.

Windstream Offers New Carrier Switched Ethernet Solution

Windstream Corp. (Nasdaq: WIN) announced the release of Carrier Switched Ethernet. This service will provide carriers with access to Windstream’s ILEC footprint through a network interconnect that will make it more cost-effective for carrier customers to provide multi-location data solutions to their customers.  

Carrier Switched Ethernet provides wholesale carriers access to 980 exchanges within the Windstream network.  With the solution, interconnect ports of 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, and 10 Gbps are available, and end user loops from 3 Mbps to 1 Gbps are supported.

Windstream Hosted Solutions Intros Disaster Recovery as a Service

Windstream Hosted Solutions announced its new Disaster Recovery as a Service solution - combining the replication and cloud technologies, and offering a fully hosted and managed disaster recovery solution. 

Capitalizing on Windstream’s existing cloud infrastructure footprint, the Windstream Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solution provides a variety of cost-effective methods to replicate and recover critical servers and data center infrastructure. By simplifying the disaster recovery process to speed recovery time, Windstream’s Disaster Recovery as a Service recovers a customer’s infrastructure and runs it in the cloud.

By taking advantage of the economies of scale of cloud infrastructure, Windstream’s solution delivers recovery times suited for mission-critical applications at a previously unachievable cost.
