New Ulm Telecom 3rd Quarter Dividend

The Board of Directors of New Ulm Telecom (OTC:NULM.OB) declared a 3rd quarter dividend in the amount of $.10 per share. The dividend will be paid to shareholders of record at the close of business on September 15, 2008 and will be payable on September 23, 2008.

CenturyTel Declares Quarterly Cash Dividend

CenturyTel (NYSE:CTL) has announced that its Board of Directors voted to declare a quarterly cash dividend of $.70 per share, payable on September 22, 2008, to shareholders of record on September 9, 2008. This dividend reflects the Company's new regular quarterly dividend rate in accordance with its revised cash return strategy announced June 24th.

ACS Appoints New Vice President, Engineering

Alaska Communications Systems Group ("ACS") (Nasdaq:ALSK) has appointed Michael Todd to a newly created leadership position at the Company -- vice president, engineering.

In this role, Todd will drive strategic and operational network planning and engineering for all of ACS' wireless and wireline networks. Todd will lead product innovation, support complex sales efforts and oversee the design, engineering and optimization of ACS' network, including the repositioning of ACS' existing infrastructure to better serve the needs of Enterprise customers.

"Mike Todd knows not only how to design and execute network engineering solutions but will provide great leadership in driving strategic and operational objectives at ACS. As ACS undergoes rapid transformation to strengthen its leadership position in wireless, and to better serve the high-demand, high-value Enterprise market, Mike is the right person in the right role," said Anand Vadapalli, senior vp, Network & IT.

Todd is a seasoned veteran of telecom engineering and operations management. He comes to ACS from Sprint where he most recently served as staff operations director, network services. He also held other leadership positions at Sprint (NYSE:S), and has previously served in technology and leadership roles in other companies.

"I am thrilled to be part of such an energetic and dynamic organization. My family and I are excited about becoming part of the Alaskan community. I look forward to keeping ACS at the forefront of technology to meet the unique communications needs of Alaskans," said Todd.

Todd's appointment is effective immediately. He and his family are relocating to Anchorage from Overland Park, Kansas.

Qwest Wireless Customers now Eligible to Switch to Verizon

Qwest Communications (NYSE:Q) announced that Qwest Wireless customers are now eligible to switch their wireless service to Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) through Qwest. That means customers will now have access to America’s Most Reliable Network as well as industry-leading handsets, smartphones, BlackBerry devices and high-speed wireless broadband services for e-mail, Internet access and multimedia services, such as mobile music and video.

This week Qwest began contacting Qwest Wireless customers directly with specific Verizon Wireless device and calling plan recommendations. Qwest Wireless customers who sign up for Verizon Wireless service through Qwest will be eligible for exclusive offers from Verizon Wireless. For a limited time, Qwest will waive the contract termination fees for existing Qwest Wireless customers who switch to Verizon Wireless service sold through Qwest.

Additionally, customers with bundled services from Qwest may choose to have their Verizon Wireless services appear on their Qwest bill when billing systems are fully integrated this fall.
 
All current Qwest Wireless customers will be notified directly by Qwest with transition recommendations to ensure the best possible customer experience.

Qwest Announces Key Leadership Changes

Qwest Communications International (NYSE:Q) and its Board of Directors announced today several key leadership changes that represent a continued effort to better align the company’s strategies with a keen operations focus. These changes, effective today, reflect new leadership for two sales groups and product/IT while the role of the general counsel will now include additional duties as chief administrative officer.

Qwest chairman and ceo Edward A. Mueller and chief operating officer Tom Richards announced the following:

  • Teresa Taylor, 44, previously executive vice president and chief administrative officer, has been named executive vice president for Business Markets Group (BMG). In this role, she will oversee all sales, marketing and operations for national business sales, including government sales on the local, state and federal levels. She will report to Richards.
  • Dan Yost, 59, previously executive vice president for product and IT, has been named executive vice president for the Mass Markets Organization (MMO). In this role, he will oversee all sales, marketing and operations for in-region consumer and small-business sales. He will continue to report to Richards.
  • Neil Cox, 58, previously vice president for BMG national sales in the central region, has been promoted to executive vice president for product and IT. In this role, he will lead the product development and management of Qwest’s voice, data and IP portfolio, and also will oversee the critical information technology infrastructure used to deliver services. He will report to Richards and will move to Denver from Chicago.
The company also announced that Paula Kruger, previously executive vice president for MMO, will be leaving the company.
 
In addition, Mueller announced the following:
  • Rich Baer, 51, currently executive vice president and general counsel, will also now serve as chief administrative officer.   In addition to leading Qwest’s law department and the company’s risk management and compliance efforts, Baer will oversee public policy, federal relations, human resources, labor relations, corporate communications, the Qwest Foundation, corporate social responsibility, and sponsorships and events.
