Actility - Company Profile

Introduction

Actility is a leading provider of Smart Energy Management, Machine-to-Machine (M2M), and Internet of Things (IoT) services.  Recently, Actility was able to raise approximately $25 million in a funding round that was led by Ginko Ventures, KPN, Orange, Swisscom and Foxconn.  The investment shows confidence in the growth expectations of Actility and of the entire IoT industry as a whole.  ThingPark is Actility’s full integrated platform for IoT.  There are many different aspects of ThingPark, which consist of ThingPark Wireless, ThingPark Cloud, and ThingPark Store.  ThingPark Wireless is an IoT network that is dedicated to long range, low-power sensors.  Some of the benefits of ThingPark Wireless are that it has optimized radio coverage that can suit a variety of users’ needs, customized Service Level Agreements for users’ vertical applications, long range bi-directional, low power network, and can connect to user applications or to the ThingPark Cloud.

Industries that ThingPark Addresses

    - Smart Energy Management

    - Smart City

    - Remote Home Monitoring and Control

    - Smart Building

    - Smart Agriculture

    - Smart Factory

ThingPark Wireless vs. Other Wireless Networks

Usually other wireless networks (3G and 4G networks) require local power sources for devices that are connected, whereas ThingPark Wireless allows for battery-powered sensors that have a battery life of several years.  ThingPark Wireless uses free industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio bands, which allow for a low cost roll-out of industrial M2M and IoT applications.

ThingPark IoT Enabler

ThingPark IoT Enabler is another part of Actility’s IoT product and service.  This platform essentially comes in three parts, Cocoon, ThingPark Cloud, and ThingPark Store.  Cocoon is an easy-to-use open-source solution that has the capability to be embedded into local gateway equipment.  By doing this, Cocoon is able to easily connect smart devices with multiple protocols and at the same time have a standard interface to cloud-based applications that they are able to present.  Cocoon and ThingPark Wireless both connect to the cloud, which is connected to the ThingPark Store.  The ThingPark Cloud is a large Data storage and application development interface.  Rounding out the ThingPark IoT Enabler is the ThingPark Store, which is an online marketplace for M2M and IoT.
