Video Calling to Surpass 380 Million Active Users by 2015

Video calling is expected to experience significant growth. New NPD In-Stat research forecasts the total number of active video calling users will surpass 380 million in 2015, a monumental increase from 63 million in 2010.

Verizon FiOS TV Coming Soon to Xbox

Verizon (NYSE:VZ) announce a new offer that makes a selection of live, FiOS TV channels available over the Xbox 360 Entertainment System. Through a collaboration between Verizon and Microsoft, customers who are Xbox LIVE Gold members and who subscribe to both FiOS TV and Internet service will be able to view select live channels through their Xbox consoles.

LightSquared and Cellular Product Distributors (CPD-USA) have partnered to bring mobile broadband to CPD-USA’s line of MyMO Mobile Office hotspot devices.

CPD-USA’s MyMO Mobile Office portable devices are pocket-sized mobile hotspots that provide simultaneous connectivity to multiple mobile devices. By partnering with LightSquared, CPD-USA can now expand beyond their traditional hardware sales business and offer nationwide wireless broadband connectivity bundled with their devices. CPD-USA will also make its hotspot devices available to LightSquared’s growing roster of wholesale partners.

NetAmerica Alliance Names Ely Compean to Run 4G LTE Operations Center

NetAmerica Alliance, LLC announced that Ely Compean has joined NetAmerica as the Vice President of SuperCenter Operations. In this role, Ely has responsibility for staffing and operating NetAmerica’s 24/7 network operations center, as well as integrating all functions and software necessary to provide world class monitoring and network management services to NetAmerica Alliance members. The SuperCenter is at the heart of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network and is a key component of delivering and monitoring converged services in a 4G LTE network.

Ely comes to NetAmerica with more than 20 years of experience in building and running world class, mission critical networks in the telecommunications and energy industry sectors. As a key consultant in networking to the state of Texas and as Vice President of Engineering at El Paso Global Networks, he has built, scaled, and run sophisticated operations in the U.S. and abroad. His background is further complimented by years of work in solutions architecture and global systems integration, all of which will be brought to bear as he works with NetAmerica Alliance members and partners to bring 4G LTE service to rural America.

NewNet Plans to Acquire Nokia Siemens Networks WiMAX Business

NewNet Communication Technologies, LLC, a Skyview Capital, LLC portfolio company, announced that the company plans to acquire the former Motorola Solutions’ WiMAX business from Nokia Siemens Networks. Under the terms of the agreement, NewNet would acquire the complete WiMAX product portfolio, the related employees and assets, as well as active customer and supplier contracts. Approximately 300 Nokia Siemens Networks employees would transfer to NewNet. The companies expect to close before December 31, 2011.
