On April 11 Atlanta, Georgia-based CLEC Birch announced the close of its $750k acquisition of Bradenton, Florida-based CLEC AstroTel. The deal’s close coincides with AstroTel paying Verizon Florida, LLC approximately $489k in disputed interconnection fees and dropping a lawsuit it had claimed against the ILEC. For Birch, the deal marks its 14th acquisition since 2006, and its second consecutive purchase involving a Florida-based CLEC operating in Chapter 11.
