NTCA released a white paper on April 26, 2012, entitled "The Smart Rural Community," in which the association looked at numerous examples of how rural telecom providers, local governments, tech start-ups, and even non-tech industries are enabling rural and remote communities to become "smart." NTCA explains that broadband is the backbone of a smart rural community, but it takes more to reach this desirable end state of sustainable economic growth and total connectivity.
