Cloud Based IP Traffic to Reach 4.8 Zettabytes by the End of 2015

Cisco released its Global Cloud Index, an ongoing effort to forecast the growth of global data center and cloud-based IP traffic. The forecast includes trends associated with data center virtualization and cloud computing. Highlights include:

• Annual global data center IP traffic will reach 4.8 zettabytes by the end of 2015. In 2015, global data center IP traffic will reach 402 exabytes per month.

• Global data center IP traffic will increase fourfold over the next 5 years. Overall, data center IP traffic will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 33 percent from 2010 to 2015.

Cincinnati Bell's CyrusOne Names New COO

CyrusOne, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cincinnati Bell (NYSE:CBB), has hired Michael Duckett as the company’s new chief operating officer.

The most recent addition in a number of recent C-suite hires by the growing technology company in recent months, Duckett is expected to put his more than 25 years of IT services industry experience to use immediately, overseeing daily operations activities as the company looks to aggressively expand its business.

Before joining CyrusOne, Duckett served as the president and COO of CoreLink Data Centers LLC, where he was responsible for information technology operation, delivery, and profit-and-loss management. He also held a senior vice president of operations position at Terremark Worldwide, where he was responsible for the colocation, hosting, and network business lines during a period when Terremark went from approximately $50 million in revenue to over $300 million.

Other recent hires by CyrusOne include:  Kimberly Sheehy, Chief Administrative Officer responsible for Finance, Human Resources and Corporate Administration; Kevin Timmons, Chief Technology Officer and John Hatem, Vice President of Design and Construction.

REIT to Acquire Data Center in Atlanta for $94.7 Million

According to an article on Web Host Industry Review, an affiliate of real estate firm Carter Balidus Mission Critical REIT said it will acquire a data center in downtown Atlanta for $94.7 million. The 338,000 square foot data center is located in the former Macy's building and is currently leased to six tenants. The deal is expected to close January 3.

Windstream Hosted Solutions Announces New Customer PMMC

PMMC, a provider of revenue cycle management tools to integrated healthcare delivery systems, announced that it has taken a major step in providing an increased level of service and reliability to its customers by migrating its PMMC Estimator PRO application to a cloud-based infrastructure from Windstream Hosted Solutions, a provider of enterprise-class managed hosting solutions.

PMMC chose to move Estimator PRO’s infrastructure requirements to the Windstream Hosted Solutions Cloud, providing it and its customers with the highest level of confidence.  “We are receiving real-time information feeds from hospital systems around the country, with as many as 4,000 concurrent users,” said Kelly Coleman, PMMC’s senior vice president of operations.  “Our customer base has expanded dramatically in the last year, and we needed a trusted partner who could keep up with our growth.  We required maximum uptime and availability; downtime wasn’t something we could risk, since our client databases are constantly changing.”

Verizon Teams with inContact to Deliver Cloud-Based Customer Solutions

Verizon (NYSE:VZ) announced that it has teamed with inContact, a provider of cloud contact center solutions, to offer an advanced suite of cloud-based Virtual Contact Center services. The offering, available January 2012, will enable customers of businesses and government agencies to choose how they want to contact and interact with the organization. Since Virtual Contact Center solutions are cloud-based, there is no large upfront capital investment, and they can be employed to augment and adjust existing customer service operations to more flexible address changing business requirements.
