US Cellular and Alltel Wireless Join to Offer Prepaid Service at Walmart

U.S. Cellular (NYSE:USM) and Alltel Wireless have joined together to begin offering U Prepaid, a no contract wireless service, in select Walmart Stores, Inc. in local communities across 18 states beginning in May. The alliance, the first of its kind in the industry, offers customers flexible payment options without signing a contract.

The new alliance provides Walmart customers simplified, easy-to-understand service plan choices. Depending on where customers live, the U Prepaid service will run on either U.S. Cellular's or Alltel's network.

Customers will be able to select one of four U Prepaid devices that best meets their personal needs. The Android-powered Samsung Repp, the LG Attune/LG Exchange, LG Saber, and the Samsung Chrono.

Walmart Offers Disc-to-Digital Cloud Service

Walmart announced that it is giving physical DVD/Blu-ray collections a second life by turning them into digital movies. The nation’s largest home entertainment retailer is the first to announce an exclusive in-store disc-to-digital service which gives movie lovers the freedom to watch their DVD/Blu-ray collections from Internet-connected devices, including televisions, tablets, smartphones, gaming consoles and more. The service is powered by VUDU.

Walmart and T-Mobile Introduce No Annual Contract 4G Offering

Walmart and T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced that T-Mobile will launch a $30 unlimited web and text monthly 4G prepaid service plan — providing customers with a no-annual contract 4G data offering. The plan will be sold exclusively in-store at more than 2,200 Walmart stores and online and is expected to launch Oct. 16.

With this new offering, available for $30 per month and no annual contract, customers can enjoy unlimited Web, with the first 5 GB at up to 4G speeds; unlimited text; and 100 minutes of talk, with 10 cents per minute after the first 100 minutes.

In further expansion of this offer, Walmart is increasing its line-up of affordable T-Mobile phones to six, including the addition of Walmart’s first 4G prepaid handset.
