Otelco Acquires Maine-Based Cloud Provider Reliable Networks

Otelco Grows Maine Offerings with IP Services Acquisition

January 6, 2014, Otelco announced that it has acquired Portland, Maine-based Reliable Networks, a provider of cloud hosting and managed services.
 
Otelco paid $500,000 at the closing of the acquisition. The balance of the purchase price will be paid in stock over the next three years, contingent on Reliable Networks achieving certain financial objectives. The acquisition will provide Otelco with additional managed service capabilities that will supplement the growth of existing IP services while expanding its current market presence. Reliable Networks will operate as a division of OTT Communications, Otelco’s New England competitive operating entity.

Telcos Take to the Cloud in 2011

Telcos were the largest and most frequent buyers in the very active data center and cloud services M&A scene in 2011. Collectively, a broad range of communications providers spent over $8.2b to purchase data centers and managed service providers during the year. For telcos, these acquisitions offer the potential to diversify revenue streams and to attract more business customers in service areas that are projected to grow in the coming years. Twin Valley Telephone Buys into Growth in the Cloud

Time Warner Video Losses Offset by Triple Play Adds

Time Warner lost 130k cable television subs in 2Q11, but its revenues and profits were still up moderately YoY. Data and voice customer adds compensated for its video losses, and growth in its business services segment drove ARPU higher.

TDS Expands Managed IP Service in Wisconsin and Tennessee

TDS Telecommunications Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems (NYSE:TDS), is introducing a new communications solution in several Wisconsin and Tennessee communities.

Known as managedIP, this hosted Internet Protocol communications solution integrates voice and data as a single communications solution. Unlike many voice over Internet protocol services, TDS managedIP never uses the public Internet. The TDS solution is delivered over a private, secure, and dedicated network “hosted” at a secure TDS facility, according to Bill Schmitt, market manager for TDS.

Already available in parts of Wisconsin and Tennessee, TDS managedIP provides businesses with improved productivity and greater efficiencies.

TDS managedIP is currently available in parts of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. TDS plans to continue expanding availability of its managedIP communications solution to more markets this year.
